We help you achieve grounded, stable growth, allowing your thoughts to flow unrestricted – leaving a sense of feeling more like yourself, being more in the moment, focused and mindful.
Life's traumas build up and colour the way we see the world, affecting our mental balance and perception. The balance of our brain is linked with our autoimmune system, our emotional, physical, and mental health. By restoring balance, a wide range of emotional and functional difficulties tend to fall away. Most importantly, restoring this natural balance (calming unbidden thoughts) helps you perceive the world around you more clearly.
How will this clarity and balance make your life better? For some it's a sense of connection to your deeper self. For some it's bringing creativity forward, or clearing and sharpening thinking. For others it's a better perspective on life, or relief from dysfunction. They have a greater ability to focus, with their feet firmly on the ground, and find the inner resources to make positive changes. They approach life with more enthusiasm, feel happier for no apparent reason, and the little things that used to irritate, don't. People report they smile more after balancing, like a weight has been lifted.
Being in balance allows you to gain control and make choices that you weren't able to before, as getting out of stuck habits allows you the freedom to choose your reactions. It doesn't mean you won't get slapped about – it just means you'll handle it in a healthier way, and it won't linger as before.
The goal of making life better gives us a purpose beyond simple survival. We will help you to look at your life through new eyes, to be better steward of yourself, and a good example to those around you.
Is it safe? Yes.
In the 40 years of neurofeedback, nobody has been harmed. It is incredibly safe, as your mind does the balancing itself by tending towards a more comfortable state. That's what comfortable is – what we draw towards naturally.
Brain balancing is completely non-intrusive. The EEG electrodes are 'read only' and simply listen to the electrical impulses from your brain. You wear standard earphones and listen to tones that the computer generates based on your brain activity. Your brain makes its own adjustments, and knows how to heal itself.
We are trained professionals, using top quality equipment.
A Brain State Session;
The sessions are simple, painless, and non-invasive. You recline comfortably in a chair with your eyes closed while a pair of sensors read your brain activity. The feedback is in the form of 'music'.
We tailor mental exercises for you during your brain balancing process. Not only is meditation proven to be healthy in general, but it helps you keep your conscious mind out of the way so your brain can dedicate its resources to rebalancing itself without interference.
You will be working with a fully qualified technician who will monitor your progress and work with you to assure best results. Typically, over the course of a two hour session we do six to eight different sensor placements (protocols), often with an appropriate mental exercise to help things along.
EEG equipment to detect brain activity has been in use for decades.
What makes us different is that we use the latest advances in this technology for restoring self regulation. Because we allow the brain to do the work itself, results are rapid and long-lasting. While gains made in many therapies often don’t hold because the base trauma is still there, we address the difficulty from its root, making for lasting results.
Brain State (our software platform) provides results measureable in scientific terms. It is rated 80%+ effective in relief of symptoms on the US Govt’ Post Traumatic Stress scale, a rate unmatched by any other approach. In other areas, 87% of the 15,000 Brain State clients have reported significant improvement towards their goals, a rate of achievement amongst the best of the best.
This high success rate (double or more that of most methods) make us a very competitive option. We aim to keep our prices as low as we can to make us as accessible as possible. Hourly, our rates are reasonable by any standard.
It is important to note that a child or vulnerable adult living in a physically or psychologically toxic environment will have more difficulty in sustaining gains. Eight percent of people, for whatever reason, don’t respond to brain training. It’s not a panacea.

What is enough improvement for you? Mild emotional and functional conditions may fall away quite quickly, typically the more serious the more sessions. Our initial block is ten sessions of two hours each. Ideally this block of sessions is completed over five days – this helps us get the brain into a more balanced state, and hold it there long enough to build a 'habit'.
The change is cumulative during the course of the training and for the three weeks following. Individuals can change dramatically, for some it is more subtle. Since every person is unique, the type, order and pace of change are also unique to the individual. Some are highly responsive to brain training, while others experience change more slowly. Different conditions respond at different rates, typically the more serious the more sessions. Because of the nature of the nervous system this isn't easily predictable, but a one week intensive gets you well on your way to alleviating your symptoms or meeting your goal. Bodywork and release exercises aid the process even further.
Self improvement is lifelong, a continuum. When is enough? If you feel you would like to move forward further, we recommend a month or more between blocks of sessions. This allows you time to integrate the previous improvements before going for more.
We offer packages of 10, 20, and 30 sessions. If you would like more sessions, you can upgrade your package at any time.
A fully balanced state is experienced as happiness, contentment, clarity, and a sense of being grounded in the present moment. Most report a new vitality, a familiar but forgotten sense of being more like themselves than they have for a long time. It's common for someone to report that though they came in for help with one problem, they have found benefits in other areas.
Exactly how you will feel is unique to you. Most report feeling like they did when they were a kid, regaining some of what they’d lost when other things got in the way. A step forward, of feeling more comfortable in their own skin, feeling more like themselves, and accepting that self. It's an alert and relaxed feeling, alive and quiet at the same time.
It can be difficult to assess our state of mind from the inside. It can be difficult to assess something that has become absent... like remembering a toothache. It can be consuming while it's there, but when gone you don't notice its absence. That's the nature of balance, it feels natural..
The shifts are so organic to the brain that the way you feel and act seems perfectly natural – and it is, as you are acting more like yourself, and less from automatic reactions. Sometimes it takes others around us to notice the difference. As we gain greater distance from the time of change it is easier to see that we’re functioning in a more balanced way.
As the psychological core improves, old habits naturally shuffle into healthier ones. Because the central nervous system is doing the balancing itself, changes in people’s lives usually take place quite seamlessly. Many people simply feel better immediately, for others the transition can be longer, a process rather than an event. While every person’s experience is unique, there are a few rules of thumb.
Gaining greater emotional connection with the world can seem unusual or even uncomfortable for a while, and one may be tempted to fall back into pushing feelings away. Emotional contact with the world and those around us – good and bad – is part of being fully alive, and brings us into life at its fullest.
With greater clarity, you may see things in your life that no longer serve you and need to make changes. Changes can be difficult, but serve you well in the long term.
Connecting to what we habitually push down can feel unusual at first. Occasionally clients report an increase of old familiar emotions (or past symptoms) for several weeks before the difficulty passes away and the issue fades out for good. It's a bit like going to the gym and feeling that old injury acting up, revealing what’s below.
People often report a feeling of mental fatigue, as when learning any new skill. One can expect vivid dreams as part of the mind settling into a more balanced position.
A brain map (assessment) gives clues as to what personal challenges (if any) you may find in coming into balance.
Balancing is usually a process rather than an event, and the three weeks following are important to making the new neural nets dominant over the old. The more you use your new neural connections, the more dominant they become. It's the nature of the brain.
The brain naturally seeks a balanced, stable condition, so after you have trained it is more difficult to get out of balance, and easier to return to balance. It's important to stick with the process, and use the new mental freedom to make healthier choices and the changes you need to make.
It's a good idea to take some time each day in a quiet environment to integrate the changes. We recommend keeping a journal to track your progress during and after your sessions.
To ensure the best results, do not drink alcohol or use recreational drugs for 3 weeks following your sessions. Brain neurons become 'rubberized' with alcohol and drug use and fail to set neural nets.
We will check in with you one week after your sessions, and send you a questionnaire after three weeks to gauge your progress.
If you feel you would like to move forward further, we recommend four weeks or more between blocks of sessions. This allows you time to integrate the previous improvements before going for more.
Our top priority is to deliver the best results possible. Sometimes this involves complimenting the process with other self-balance techniques, finding the most effective combination for you.
Restoring balance to the body (peripheral nervous system) at the same time as the brain (central nervous system) makes for spectacular results, particularly when dealing with anxiety or trauma related symptoms. It’s common sense – a relaxed body makes for a relaxed mind, a relaxed mind makes for a relaxed body. The two go hand in hand.
Sessions are one and a half hours each, every day for five days. The techniques we use vary according to your needs, comfort level, and degree of connection. We use techniques from the Indian, Tibetan, Thai, and modern western traditions – from relaxing massage, to applied yoga, assisted breath work, body centred focusing, trauma release exercises (see Dr David Bercelli video in 'More Info' area) and more. We find the methods appropriate to your body and situation.
Before beginning neurotherapy, James and Sarah (see 'Our Team' area) had a sought after practice in India, and were well known for their intuitive hands-on skills and traditional body-balance methods. James honed his talents by studying for five years with traditional healers, Monks, and Shamans in India and SE Asia, giving him skills virtually unique in this part of the world. Fiona, who has joined our team, is one of the leading traditional Thai massage instructors in the UK.
